Are Dreka and Kevin Gates cousins? Claim explored and all we know in wake of divorce filing

Kevin Gates and his wife, Dreka, are separating after nine years of marriage. Dreka, who also used to manage her rapper husband, filed for divorce on July 10, 2025. According to the court documents obtained by TMZ, the reason for their separation is "irreconcilable differences."

Dreka has requested spousal support and has denied the court's permission for Kevin to ask the same. She has also demanded joint legal and physical custody of their two minor kids, Islah and Khaza. Kevin and Dreka Gates got married in October 2015.

For the last couple of years, netizens have speculated whether the two are cousins or not. The rumor started in January 2015 when the rapper made a since-deleted Instagram post, sharing how he found out the woman he was dating for three months was his cousin. His grandmother pointed it out. However, they continued to date.

Although Kevin did not share the woman's identity, some internet users assumed it was Dreka. The speculation again came up in June 2022, when the rapper replied to a netizen who commented that he and Dreka look alike. Kevin jokingly replied that they were cousins.

Kevin Gates appeared on Yung Miami's show Caresha Please's July 15, 2022 episode. When she asked him whether he slept with his cousin, he admitted that he did. However, Kevin did not say that Dreka is his cousin. His wife, being his cousin, is a rumor intensified by his jokes and his confession.

Yung Miami asked the rapper if the rumors of separation were true, and Kevin Gates denied. He stated that Dreka Gates was his "best friend," and people supposedly misunderstood Super General.

He said that in the song, he didn't accuse Dreka of cheating, not even once.

"That's my best friend so no matter what, she's gonna be my best friend. I love this woman with everything in me. See, a lot of people like to take it and be like well cause the Super General song... I never accused her of cheating on me in that song. If you listen to the song, I never said she cheated on me one time. That's my best friend," Kevin Gates said.

Dreka denied the cheating rumors via Instagram stories on May 22, 2025. She criticized social media for spreading "misinformation."

"I HAVE to address this because it's really gone a little too far and I don't care for social media to continue to spread this misinformation. I have NEVER had any type of sexual or romantic encounters with my personal trainer or any 'hired help' and will NEVER," she wrote.

Notably, in April 2025, Kevin Gates and Brittany Renner confirmed their relationship and got married.

However, in June 2025, Renner told the radio station Real 92.3 LA that they divorced after 52 days of their marriage.
