Would Megyn Kelly have found daytime success if NBC didn’t try to “neuter” her?

  • Megyn Kelly Today might have worked if Kelly brought her tougher Fox News persona to daytime TV, instead of trying to be more likable to suit the daytime audience, says Batya Ungar-Sargon. “Instead of unleashing her, NBC has attempted to transform Megyn Kelly into one of the nice girls of mainstream media, another Kelly Ripa, Savannah Guthrie or Katie Couric,” she says. “The results have been predictably awkward. The glee at her stumble has been swift and vicious.” She adds: “Her descent into banal harmlessness operates as a cautionary tale to all women: You will have to be likable if you want to go mainstream.”
