Sam Esmail is developing alt-history family drama The American Throne that imagines America as a monarchy -- with a white King who has a Black son

The American Throne, which the Mr. Robot creator is making for Universal Content Productions, has the following description: “In a boldly reimagined, contemporary America where the nation was founded as a monarchy, an entirely white royal family is plunged into a scorched earth succession battle when it’s revealed the late king has hidden a mind-blowing secret: A Black son who is the true heir to the throne.” Esmail will serve as executive producers, with Julius Onah and Peter Glanz writing the potential series.
