Netflix and Ava DuVernay sued for defamation over When They See Us' portrayal of a police interrogation technique

Reid and Associates, which developed the Reid Technique for police interrogation in the late 1940s that it still used for police training to this day, alleges that the Netflix limited series defamed the company. "According to the company, it is the most widely used interrogation method by police agencies worldwide. But critics have alleged that its approach can result in false confessions," reports Variety. The fourth episode directly mentions the "f*cking Reid Technique" and calls it "universally rejected." The lawsuit claims that the dialogue mischaracterizes the Reid Technique as involving coercion and that it is wrong to say the technique has been "universally rejected."
