ABC gives a straight-to-series order to David E. Kelley-Michael Connelly mystery drama Avalon

Avalon will be Kelley's second show on ABC after Big Sky. According to The Hollywood Reporter, "ABC won a multiple-outlet bidding war for the project by giving it a straight to series order; it’s slated to be part of the broadcaster’s 2022-23 lineup. Based on Connelly's short story, Avalon is based on the titular community on Catalina Island, off the coast of Los Angeles, "where L.A. Sheriff’s Detective Nicole 'Nic' Searcy leads a small office. With a permanent population of about 4,000 that serves more than a million tourists each year, the island sees hundreds of potential stories arrive by ferry each day. Searcy is pulled into a career-defining mystery that will challenge everything she knows about herself and the island."
