Home Reimagined star Vern Yip has long been a beloved figure in the world of interior design, blending his sharp eye for style with a warm, approachable vibe that makes transforming spaces feel like a friendly adventure.
Now, after decades of working in the industry and appearing on television reality shows, the 57-year-old Hong Kong-based designer has amassed a net worth of $3 million, according to Celebrity Net Worth.
Born on June 27, 1968, in Hong Kong and raised in Northern Virginia, the Home Reimagined star's background is as layered as his interiors.
He double-majored in Chemistry and Economics at the University of Virginia, before earning both a master’s in management and a master’s in architecture from Georgia Institute of Technology.
That rare mix of creativity and analytical thinking has shaped his approach from the start. Though he once considered opening a traditional design firm, Yip has said he ultimately found his calling in television, “transforming lives through design,” a philosophy that still guides him today.
Yip rose to national prominence on Trading Spaces from 2001 to 2007, where he became known for his signature use of silk, candles, flowers and a polished yet personal aesthetic.
He went on to host HGTV’s "Deserving Design" and "Bang for Your Buck," and served as a long-running judge on HGTV's "Design Star."
Along the way, he designed everything from everyday family homes to eight-figure luxury projects, including a high-profile Oscar party in 2006.
His work has earned numerous accolades, such as Southern Living’s Distinguished Southerner Award and Southeast Designer of the Year. It has been featured in The New York Times, Entertainment Weekly, USA Today, People and House Beautiful.
“For me, the greatest joy is in building spaces that nurture and inspire the real you,” Vern Yip says ahead of Home Reimagined's premiere on the Magnolia Network on Saturday, December 27, 2025, at 1 p.m. ET/PT.
His official website reflects that idea, describing his talent for weaving travel, culture and creativity into every project.
Influenced by childhood travels across Asia, Latin America, and Europe, Yip has a gift for blending global elements into cohesive spaces that feel both elevated and lived-in.
As he puts it, “Trends are less important than personal happiness. Plan properly instead of buying random items.”
That philosophy is evident in his works in Home Reimagined.
The four-episode series follows Yip as he travels across America, mentoring brave renovators who have taken on the task of converting unusual commercial and industrial spaces into one-of-a-kind family homes.
“Converting a structure that was never intended to be a home is significantly harder than renovating a home that was designed to be one,” Yip explains to TV Insider.
What draws him in, he says, is "a genuine love and connection to the structure along with an intense desire to preserve history for themselves and their communities. He found that "beautiful, inspiring and unexpected."
The series takes viewers to places like northwest Montana, Glacier National Park and rural Wisconsin, locations that even Yip himself was surprised by.
Regarding the Home Reimagined star's personal life, Yip and his partner, Craig Koch, reside in Atlanta, Georgia. The couple has two children: a son and a daughter.
