Widely considered Stephen King's magnum opus, many have tried and failed to bring The Stand to the screen. Multiple film adaptations have been scraped over the years, owing in part to the sheer length of King's original work (the unabridged edition clocks in at a whopping 1,152 pages). A four-part 1994 ABC miniseries adaptation was generally well-received at the time, but is considered by many to have only brushed the surface of King's masterwork. Will the big budgets and unlimited running times of Peak TV finally give The Stand its due? With CBS All Access dropping the first episode of its ten part limited series adaptation today, we'll soon find out.
