Oscar broadcast will start 30 minutes earlier: Viewers won’t have to wait until 8:30 p.m. ET

  • The Oscars previously had the unusual start time of 8:30 p.m., which sometimes resulted in the Best Picture announcement coming in at or past midnight on the East Coast. This year, the Oscars will kick off at 8 p.m., which means the preshow will start at 6:30 p.m. The 90th Academy Awards released its first promo this morning, featuring the infamous Best Picture flub, which happened after midnight on the East Coast.
