How Harvey Weinstein used Project Runway as a pipeline to models

  • “He kept asking: ‘Where’s my model show?’ He wouldn’t drop it,” recalls a former Weinstein Company employee of the Project Runway development process, in an interview with The Los Angeles Times. Because Project Runway was a show about designers, producers had to create an in-show competition for models “that was designed as a vestigial element for Harvey,” says a TV executive. As The Los Angeles Times reports, “Several women who have publicly accused Weinstein of misconduct described incidents in which he used his fashion business ties and ownership of Project Runway as enticements or pretexts for meetings. Former aspiring actress Lucia Evans told the New Yorker that Weinstein said during a meeting that she’d 'be great in Project Runway' before allegedly forcing her to perform oral sex."
