What did Selena Gomez say about rumored feud with Hailey Bieber years after supposedly ending it?

Years after supposedly ending the drama speculations, Selena Gomez and Hailey Bieber again seem to be embroiled in controversy, this time because of the latter's interview with a magazine. The 28-year-old beauty founder’s statements seem to have been taken out of context.

WSJ, in their October 14, 2025, article, reported that Hailey Bieber responded to a question about Gomez’s Rare Beauty saying:

“It’s always annoying being pitted against other people. I didn’t ask for that,” she said. “When people want to see you a certain way and they’ve made up a story about you in their minds, it’s not up to you to change that.”

The magazine then asked the Rhode Beauty founder whether she “feels competitive” with other brands with products in Sephora, and she replied:

“I think there is space for everybody. I don’t feel competitive with people that I’m not inspired by.”

Gomez tried to end the feud rumours in an Instagram Story by asking fans  to “just leave the girl alone.”:

“Doesn’t affect my life whatsoever. It’s just about relevance, not intelligence. Be kind. All brands inspire me. There is room for everyone. And hopefully we can all stop.”

Selena Gomez and Hailey Bieber’s friendship timeline explored amidst new controversy 

For years now, media and fans have come up with varying theories about Gomez's and Bieber's friendship, or a lack thereof.

Selena Gomez dated Justin Bieber on and off from 2011 to 2018, and Justin Bieber married Hailey Baldwin months after his last breakup with the Rare Beauty founder.

After news of the surprise wedding broke, news outlets reported that Gomez had checked into a treatment facility after suffering an emotional breakdown.

Whilst this rumor was never confirmed, some fans of Justin Bieber and Gomez’s relationship have been in denial, constantly trolling Hailey Bieber on the internet.

The verbal attacks against Hailey led Selena Gomez to speak out in 2023. She wrote on her Instagram Story:

“Hailey Bieber reached out to me and let me know that she has been receiving death threats and such hateful negativity. This isn’t what I stand for. No one should have to experience hate or bullying. I’ve always advocated for kindness and really want this all to stop.”

Hailey Bieber thanked the Rare Beauty mogul for her support and shared that she has been discussing with Gomez on how to move past the fan drama.

After Selena Gomez publicly condemned the hate comments against Hailey Bieber in March 2023, it was revealed that the duo had started following each other on Instagram.
 

Some months later, Bieber appeared on The Circuit with Emily Chang and expressed her thoughts on fans creating a feud between her and Gomez.

The Rhode Beauty mogul dismissed the drama as a ploy to breed hatred and enmity:

"I don’t think that this is about me, Hailey Bieber, and Selena Gomez—this is not about this pitting between two women and division between two women."

She added:

"It’s about the vile, disgusting hatred that can come from completely made-up and twisted and perpetuated narratives. That can be really dangerous.”

The duo supported each other through the years by liking celebratory posts. Hailey liked Selena and Benny Blanco's engagement post in December 2024.

Selena also liked Hailey’s Instagram post in May 2025, where she announced that Rhode Beauty products would be available in Sephora.

Selena Gomez and Hailey Bieber unfollowed each other in June 2025, reigniting speculations of a feud.
