Wall to Wall is a psychological thriller from South Korea written and directed by Kim Tae-joon. The original screenplay explores the real-life housing crisis in the highly competitive market place of Seoul. The series was globally released on Netflix on July 18, 2025.
 
The protagonist of ‘Wall to Wall’, Woo-sung, pools in every bit of money he has, takes a loan as well as an early severance from his job, to buy an apartment in the city. However, he is kept up every night by noises coming from the floor above him. To make matters worse, his neighbors staying on the floors below believe him to be the source of the noise. As a determined Woo-sung investigates the disturbance, he discovers his neighbor Jin-ho to be the one responsible. 

The enigmatic upstairs neighbor and a renegade investigative journalist, Jin-ho intended to expose dishonest developer Eun-hwa's dubious real estate scam by inciting and recording the psychological collapse of an unwary resident, choosing Woo-sung as his subject. His cunning use of surveillance and noise manipulation contributes to a broader exposé of power abuse in the complex.

What was the purpose of the noise in the building in Wall to Wall?

In Wall to Wall, the constant noise that plagues Woo-sung's apartment is not a result of a construction flaw but rather a planned attack by Jin-ho, his ostensibly helpful upstairs neighbor. A former investigative journalist who becomes a vigilante, Jin-ho purposefully causes the disturbances by employing a concealed, Wi-Fi-controlled subwoofer and hacks into the building intercoms to broadcast loud bass and sporadic disruptions. 

The purpose of Jin-ho to undertake the trouble to plan such disturbance is to deceive Woo-sung into a mental collapse, and portray him as a victim of a corrupt system that he foolishly supported. His ultimate goal has been to cause trouble and reveal the truth about Eun-hwa's dishonest real estate practices, including her secret purchase of several apartments through a rail-line development scheme. 

Jin-ho plans for the collapse of Woo-sung to be a public display of exploitation, exposing the far-reaching effects of unbridled power and greed in the high-density housing market. By exposing systemic decay, his complex plan transforms ordinary noise pollution into a weaponized spotlight on contemporary urban corruption.

What is the fate of Jin-ho and Eun-hwa in Wall to Wall?

Jin-ho and Eun-hwa's stories come to a violent, fiery climax in Wall to Wall. The noise campaign's renegade journalist, Jin-ho, is fatally wounded by Eun-hwa in a confrontation at her penthouse after he demands the incriminating ledger that reveals her corruption. As Eun-hwa gets ready to murder Woo-sung, Jin-ho unexpectedly regains his strength momentarily and kills her by strangulation, dealing the corrupted power broker a sudden death. 

In the penthouse, Woo-sung starts a gas leak, which results in a huge explosion that obliterates the ledger and all other evidence, killing Jin-ho and Eun-hwa. There are no surviving insiders to confirm the truth after the occurrence. Despite being permanently altered, Woo-sung lives on, haunted by phantom sounds in his room that represent the systemic unfairness.
