NBC Bows La Brea, Only Murders Goes Quiet, Netflix Roasts Hollywood Clichés

    FOX's 9-1-1 has infleited all kinds of natural disasters upon the residents of Los Angeles, but NBC is set to up the ante tonight with the supernatural disaster at the heart of its new dystopian drama, La Brea.

    Also today: Only Murders in the Building plays with convention in a mostly-silent episode, Rob Lowe hosts Netflix special Attack of the Hollywood Clichés, and the Obamas team with the creator of Doc McStuffins on the new Netflix animated children’s show, Ada Twist, Scientist. Here’s what’s new and noteworthy on TV this Tuesday:

    La Brea: Series premiere. When a massive sinkhole opens in the middle of Los Angeles, pulling hundreds of people into a mysterious and dangerous primeval land, those who fall must band together to survive in their new environment. Above ground, the rest of the world desperately searches for answers and clings to the hope that they’ll be reunited with their loved ones. Watch trailer. 9:00 PM ET on NBC

    Only Murders in the Building: In an episode that’s almost entirely silent, a mysterious young man turns the tables to spy on Charles (Steve Martin), Oliver (Martin Short), and Mabel (Selena Gomez). Streaming on Hulu

    Attack of the Hollywood Clichés: Special presentation. Host Rob Lowe and his celebrity friends examine the cinematic clichés that filmmakers can’t help but use, including the “Wilhelm Scream” and “Walking Away from an Explosion.” Watch trailer. Streaming on Netflix

    Britney vs. Spears: Original documentary. The fight to #FreeBritney continues in this new Netflix documentary about the pop star's conservatorship case. Directed by Erin Lee Carr (I Love You, Now Die: The Commonwealth v. Michelle Carter), the film features years-long investigative research, exclusive interviews with those close to Spears, and new documents, text messages, and a voicemail from the singer.     Ada Twist, Scientist: Complete first season. Barack and Michelle Obama, Doc McStuffins creator Chris Nee, and veteran children’s show writer Kerri Grant bring the acclaimed children's book series to the small screen in this new animated series. Watch trailer. Streaming on Netflix
