Nick Ruggia and Ryan Hoffman of the sketch comedy troupe Temple Horses uploaded a video about employees at a pumpkin patch having sexual intercourse with a pumpkin in October 2014. When they saw Saturday Night Live do a similar sketch in October 2018, they decided not to pursue any action in response. “We felt like nothing good would come from addressing it, and also we were afraid of potential repercussions, and we were kind of afraid of being dismissed by our peers, even though everyone we showed it to said it was blatant,” Hoffman tells Variety. “So we decided to let it go.” But they changed their mind last month after seeing SNL air a "Pound Puppy" sketch during Don Cheadle's episode that bore a resemblance to their "Pet Blinders" sketch that was uploaded in 2011 -- about a fictional product sold to prevent pets from watching their owners perform sex act. "It was twice in the same season, and we felt that at this point, that we didn’t really have a choice but to address it,” says Hoffman. “And we don’t really want to be involved in a mess like this, but there’s a certain point you have to stand up for yourself and your work.” NBC declined to comment to Variety, but a source told the publication that NBC found that different writers worked on each digital short. “This is not ‘parallel construction’: Two separate instances of wholesale lifting of concept, setting, characters, plot, and outcome in the same season do not happen by coincidence,” their attorney, Wallace Neel wrote in a letter to NBC, “Someone(s) at SNL is plagiarizing material.”

The first two episodes will wrap up in less than an hour, with 54- and 58-minute runtimes, respectively. The remaining four episodes will run around 1 hour and 20 minutes. Slate did the calculations and found that the seven-episode Season 7 had combined running time of 440 minutes, while the six-episode Season 8 will run a total of 432 minutes. The runtimes go against rumors that go back as early as from summer 2017 of runtimes of two hours in length.

Producers IDW Entertainment is "struggling to find the capital to justify filming a promised fourth and fifth season," reports The Hollywood Reporter's Jessica Toomer, adding: "While the company has negotiated a deal with Syfy to air the series in the U.S., that agreement leaves IDW still footing major production costs. What's worse, while IDW has managed to house the first two seasons on Netflix, taking care of its international licensing needs and generating enough capital to cover the costs of previous seasons, there are no deals as of yet for a third, fourth or fifth season to be licensed to the streaming platform. So, what does all of this mean? In a nutshell: That IDW isn't in a place financially to continue supporting Wynonna Earp."

New host Karlie Kloss and new mentor Christian Siriano aren't the only new aspects of Project Runway's first season on Bravo in more than a decade. "Most stark," says Caroline Framke, "is how much the show is tripling down on inspirational inclusivity in a way that feels distinctly 2019. The new season’s models, like those of season 16, are of varying sizes (though I’d hesitate to say they’re quite as wide-ranging as the show itself implies). The judges and designers alike emphasize the importance of being able to tailor to every body, which makes for a downright jarring difference from the earliest Project Runway seasons in which 'real women' challenges were presented as catastrophic curveballs." Framke adds: "Still, the message is clear: this is a warmer, fuzzier Project Runway that wants to be for the people instead of decreeing the grand laws of fashion from somewhere above them. So far, that doesn’t make for especially fascinating reality TV, a genre that is usually better off for allowing a little more room for rougher edges. But if the vanguards of the fashion world are truly finding it in their hearts (or at least their savvy business brains) to open the doors for talent and designs alike just a little bit wider, it makes for an intriguing new direction nonetheless."

"The Bachelor can’t exist in a vacuum, and it always has to evolve," says Rob Mills, ABC's senior vice president of alternative series, who's been overseeing The Bachelor franchise for a long time. "Maybe on this new WarnerMedia streaming service they’ll put all the seasons of The Bachelor on there and you can see how The Bachelor in 2002, 2007, 2012 and then in 2019 all look very different. You absolutely see the evolution. I don’t think we want to abandon the fairy-tale aspect, just because we love it and it is the belief in true love." As for picking Hannah Brown to become the next Bachelorette, Mills says she was the best of five of Colton's bachelorettes who were in contention. "And they were all great," he says, "but there was something about Hannah B. Part of it was that she thought she was the dark horse, so she came in and had nothing to lose, saying, 'I don’t know, I’m just going to be myself.' There was just something different that we hadn’t seen in a Bachelorette before. Very kind of charming and goofy." Netflix made the unusual decision to announce the beloved comedy's cancelation via a Twitter thread that tried to frame the streaming service as a "good, conscientious, thoughtful content creator," says Kathryn VanArendonk. "Instead of owning the cold corporate logic of this cancellation, the tweets attempt to remind everyone how much Netflix cares, how much it understands the way fans feel. They’re an attempt to soften the blow, to make the company look better even while it twists the knife." VanArendonk adds: "One Day at a Time’s cancellation felt like a betrayal because, according to Netflix’s own best efforts at public engagement, the show wasn’t being cancelled by a giant faceless media company. One Day at a Time was cancelled by Your Online Friend @Netflix. As one decision about one show among an overwhelming slate of programming, it could have been a sad day for fans and nothing more. Instead, thanks to Netflix’s extensive social media efforts, it felt insulting, tin-eared, and greedy. It felt personal."

Loughlin's role in the alleged college bribery scam contrasted with her wholesome roles on Full House, Fuller House and on Hallmark Channel. It took two days for Hallmark Channel to drop Loughlin, who had become the face of the cable channel with roles on When Calls the Heart, the Garage Sale Mysteries movies and "Countdown to Christmas" films. "For fans of Full House, Loughlin’s indictment was an especially shocking reveal, as it was another example of a celebrity’s real life apparently being very different from their TV character and public persona," says Emily Yahr. "While we all know, in theory, that we actually have no clue how our favorite actors live, sometimes what we see on-screen has a deeper effect on our psyche than we realize." There was similar, but lesser shock over Felicity Huffman's involvement because of her Desperate Housewives role. The Los Angeles Times' Mary McNamara wrote a piece titled, “We’re used to celebrity scandals, but oh my God, Felicity Huffman?” As Yahr notes: "While the thinkpieces and memes continue, the apparent downfall of Loughlin and Huffman is a stark reminder of the cliche-but-true-lesson: Now matter how rich, famous or successful a person seems, we never really know what may be going on behind closed doors."

The Christine Baranski-led CBS All Access series "has moved its own stylistic goalposts far beyond its progenitor series, pushing The Good Wife‘s snappy-smart dramatics toward the visceral and the surreal," says Darren Franich. He adds that in Season 3, co-creators Michelle and Robert King "aren’t just chasing topicality. They’re telling deep stories about rich characters struggling to make sense of this incoherent moment. Every action has inadvertent, apocalyptic consequences. Lucca takes her baby for a stroll and sings a few bars of 'Baby Shark' within earshot of a loudmouthed white lady, and somehow that incident begins an uncivil war among the law firm’s employees. Diane seeks a new output for her liberal rage — and winds up conjuring an uncontrollable political movement."

"I think there were some very good moments," he tells EW of the pilot that was considered so terrible it has never seen the light of day. "It was experimental in some ways. I think they were trying to portray what could be achieved: the kind of wonder and awe, the vast scale and complexity, all these war-faring tribes, the magic, the beauty, and the treachery. I think trying to get that into a pilot may have been difficult, and perhaps the story was lost a little. But nevertheless, it gave you a sense of what it could be. We were just going along with what was down there [on the page], but though they didn’t use the pilot in its entirety, they used certain moments, and I think the pilot served its purpose. As I said, it shows you what could be done and certainly what was done thereafter. It was developed, it got bigger and bigger and bigger and more exciting and breathtaking. It was just an idea, I think. It’s impossible to get an idea of the whole season of Game of Thrones into a pilot. We were very pleased with what we’ve done, and we really enjoyed being on it, and we knew there was something special in that early stage."

There's a 20-year age gap between Ellen Pompeo and Giacomo Gianniotti, but their on-screen age difference is never brought up. "Meredith isn’t worried that she is 20 years older than DeLuca," says Amy Amatangelo. "She’s not concerned that he will want kids and she’s not going to have any more kids. There are no cheap jokes about how he understands Instagram or dating apps or whatever and she does not. They are just two adults navigating a romance while Gianniotti speaks the sexiest Italian ever. (If ever there were a McDreamy 2.0, it’s DeLuca). What’s even more remarkable is that Pompeo, who turns 50 in November, remains not just at the epicenter of the drama at Grey Sloan Memorial, but she’s also still the romantic lead of the series. The love triangle between Meredith, DeLuca and Carmack’s Link has dominated the season. Women over 40 are sexually desirable! Somebody tell The Bachelor."

Hallmark has cut all ties with Loughlin one day after her arrest for allegedly paying $500,000 to get her daughters admitted to USC. “We are saddened by the recent news surrounding the college admissions allegations,” Hallmark Channel owner Crown Media said in a statement. “We are no longer working with Lori Loughlin and have stopped development of all productions that air on the Crown Media Family Network channels involving Lori Loughlin including Garage Sale Mysteries, an independent third party production."
