Seth Meyers Dings the Media for Inviting 'Pro-War Liars' On-Air: 'Come On, CNN'

  • Seth Meyers is known for his passionate screeds about Republican hypocrisy, but last night, he flipped the script and took mainstream media networks to task for inviting Afghanistan war hawks like John Bolton and Karl Rove on their shows.

In a lengthy "A Closer Look" segment, the Late Night host put the withdrawal from Afghanistan in the starkest terms possible, explaining that Bolton and Rove have no right to criticize Biden when they are behind "some of the most horrific foreign policy debacles in American history." Meyers joked that "next time, we could ask the dudes at Sturgis for some tips on COVID prevention and noise reduction," before adding, "Seriously, do you have no shame at all? Did all of your other guests fall through?"

Rove's appearance came on Fox News, but Bolton was given an even more mainstream stage when he stopped by CNN and was given free rein to tear into the withdrawal from Afghanistan. "Come on, CNN. There are people like Barbara Lee, the only member of Congress to vote against the authorization of use of force in 2001, who were right about Afghanistan," said Meyers. "Why would you give airtime to a notorious pro-war liar who's been wrong not just about this, but about everything?"

Late Night with Seth Meyers airs weeknights at 12:35 AM ET on NBC.
