Trevante Rhodes Is Mike Tyson in New Teaser for Unauthorized Hulu Series Mike

Tyson embraces his "villainy" in the first footage from the limited series.
  • Hulu has released the teaser for its unauthorized Mike Tyson series Mike, starring Trevante Rhodes (Moonlight) as Mike Tyson.

Mike examines Tyson's journey from "a beloved global athlete to a pariah and back again," Hulu said in a statement. The teaser depicts Tyson in different stages, from childhood to adulthood, and offers a glimpse into his personal and professional lives.

"You need to embrace your villainy," one character tells Tyson in the teaser, which then cuts to shots of Rhodes throwing a TV, posing with a tiger on a chain, and telling the camera, "Now I'm really gonna have some fun."

The eight-episode limited series also stars Russell Hornsby, with guest stars Harvey Keitel, Laura Harrier, and Li Eubanks.

Tyson previously spoke out about Hulu's decision to make an unauthorized series about his life in February 2021, calling it "unfortunate" but not surprising.

Tyson added at the time, "This announcement on the heels of social disparities in our country is a prime example of how Hulu's corporate greed led to this tone-deaf cultural misappropriation of my life story. To make this announcement during Black History Month only confirms Hulu's concern for dollars over respect for Black story rights. Hollywood needs to be more sensitive to Black experiences especially after all that has transpired in 2020."

Mike premieres August 25 on Hulu.
