With the Trumps bowing out, The Kennedy Center Honors is no longer apolotical

The CBS-broadcasted event managed to side-stop politics for 40 years. That is, until this year, when Norman Lear, dancer Carmen de Lavallade and Lionel Richie said they’d boycott a meeting with President Trump, which resulted in Donald and Melania Trump announcing they would not attend “to allow the honorees to celebrate without any political distraction.”
