Family Food Fight is the latest American adaptation of a foreign culinary competition that doesn't work

  • Family Food Fight is based on an Australian format, but it hasn't found a new angle to make it just another Great British Bake Off knockoff. "What all of these shows have in common is that they seem to draw their inspiration from the Great British Bake Off (or the Great British Baking Show, as it’s called in the USA), a series that completely changed the food TV landscape by proving that you don’t need villainous judges or faux-hawked bad boys to make a compelling cooking competition show," says Greg Morabito. "With very few exceptions — Iron Chef and MasterChef being the big ones — Americanized versions of foreign cooking shows tend to miss the mark. And when it comes to Bake Off knockoffs, a primary problem is that the original series set the bar very high."
