Seth Meyers Busts Out '80s Dennis Miller Impression In an SNL Deep Cut

  • On Monday's Late Night, Seth Meyers went back past his own personal Saturday Night Live roots to dig up a deep cut, busting out an impression of 1980s era "Weekend Update" anchor Dennis Miller.

Miller was known for his cocky delivery, his long hair, and his constant similies to obscure references.

"One thing I'm definitely not gonna miss about the Trump era is the Mad Libs-style news reporting," Meyers said, setting up his impression. "Every time you hear about something the Trump team said, it's like an old Dennis Miller joke from the '80s. 'Brian Kemp and Hugo Chavez are teamin' up to steal this election like Kitty and Peter Carruthers goin' for the gold in Sarajevo, okay, babe?"

He brought it back around again later in the segment, talking about Trump lawyer Sidney Powell's claim that Hugo Chavez, who died seven years ago, helped steal the election for Joe Biden. "Still, nice to know that dead people who are voting are Hugo Chavez? Who else is voting in this election, Boutros Boutros-Ghali?"

Boutros Boutros-Ghali, who died in 2016, was United Nations Secretary-General from 1992-1996, and a classic Dennis Miller-like reference.

Meyers is hardly the first to launch an impression of Miller. Dana Carvey famously did it right along side him at the Weekend Update desk back in the day:

Carvey's riff was such a big hit that it became a recurring gag, and they even enlisted Tom Hanks to do a three-part Dennis Miller harmony for a rendition of "Jingle Bells."

Later, around the turn of the millennium, Jimmy Fallon took a swing at it during Miller's stint as a commentator on Monday Night Football:

Late Night with Seth Meyers airs weeknights at 12:35 PM ET on NBC.
