Mario Lopez Promises Easter Eggs in Saved By the Bell Reboot

  • Mario Lopez talked with Ellen DeGeneres about the upcoming reboot of Saved By The Bellteasing that there are some Easter eggs for old-school fans, but he notably stopped short of calling it a "full" cast reunion.

"They did a very cool blend of mixing in the nostalgia with a very 2020 version of kids these days, too," he said. "It was a lot of fun, and just kind of seeing everyone with the old gang, the O.G.s, and then with the new set of kids and kind of being in that now a teacher/mentor role, right?"

"And it's the whole original cast?" DeGeneres asked.

Lopez had to clear his throat, before saying "The cast is back. The cast is back." Notably not saying the whole cast because Dustin Diamond's personal problems likely mean we won't be seeing Screech, but then again, you never know, as it seems they changed their minds on bringing Lark Voorhies back. "You know, we primarily focused on the new kids, but then the way, with the old cast kind of coming back, they did it in a very clever way."

"There's a lot of little, what do they call them, Easter eggs, like throwbacks, right?" he noted."There's a lot of dancing, there's some splits."  They showed a brief shot of Lopez doing said splits while holding someone else's hand, and he admitted that he needed an assist to pull it off this time.

The new Saved By The Bell premieres November 25 on Peacock.
