HBO Max Dramatizes The Staircase, Mike Myers Returns to TV in The Pentaverate

    Nearly 20 years after French documentarians first introduced the world to Michael Peterson, a North Carolina novelist who was accused (and later convicted) of killing his wife in The Staircase, HBO Max dramatizes the events surrounding the case in a starry new limited series of the same name.

    Also today: Mike Myers returns to multi-character comedy in Netflix’s The Pentaverate, Girls5Eva Season 2 brings new hits to Peacock, Star Trek expands yet again with Strange New Worlds, and more. Here’s what’s new and noteworthy on TV this Thursday:

    The Staircase: Limited series premiere. HBO Max dramatizes the life of Michael Peterson (Colin Firth) and the suspicious death of his wife, Kathleen Peterson (Toni Collette). The stacked cast also includes Sophie Turner, Rosemarie DeWitt, Michael Stuhlbarg, and Parker Posey. Three episodes drop today. Watch trailer. Streaming on HBO Max

    The Pentaverate: Complete Season 1. A Canadian journalist (Mike Myers) finds himself embroiled in a mission to uncover a secret society working to influence world events for the greater good in this Netflix comedy. Myers, who also created the series, plays eight new characters, from The Pentaverate’s highest-ranking member Lord Lordington to ex-Russian oligarch Mishu Ivanov. Ken Jeong, Keegan-Michael Key, and Debi Mazar also star. Watch trailer. Streaming on Netflix

    Girls5Eva: Season 2 premiere. The ladies set out to become two-hit-wonders as they go through the process of recording a new studio album on their own terms. The Peacock comedy’s second season features a slew of guest stars, including Tim Meadows, Mario Cantone, Amber Ruffin, and Property Brothers Drew and Jonathan Scott. Three episodes stream today.     Star Trek: Strange New Worlds: Series premiere. Captain Christopher Pike (Anson Mount), Science Officer Spock (Ethan Peck), and Number One (Rebecca Ronijn) explore new worlds around the galaxy in this Star Trek: Discovery spinoff, set in the years before Captain Kirk boarded the U.S.S.     Julia: Season 1 finale. After an extraordinary run, Julia (Sarah Lancashire) decides to make the season finale the series’ last, shocking Paul (David Hyde Pierce) and the WGBH staff. Streaming on HBO Max

    The Flight Attendant: New episode. After finding her own highly incriminating file in Benjamin’s (Mo McRae) office, Cassie (Kaley Cuoco) seeks assurances from Shane (Griffin Matthews) and continues to evade Marco (Santiago Cabrera) as mounting stress tests her sobriety.     Law & Order: New episode. When the CEO of a Fortune 500 company is found strangled in her home, Bernard (Anthony Anderson) and Cosgrove (Jeffrey Donovan) work to connect multiple dead ends to find her killer. Meanwhile, the prosecution is faced with an uphill battle as McCoy (Sam Waterston) and Price (Hugh Dancy) butt heads over a choice that could cost them the case.
