David Simon Rewrites History in HBO's The Plot Against America

    David Simon and Ed Burns (who previously collaborated on The Wire) have assembled an impressive cast for HBO's adaptation of Philip Roth's The Plot Against America. The six-part miniseries imagines an alternate history in which Charles Lindbergh defeats Franklin D. Roosevelt in the 1940 presidential election, subsequently signing treaties with Nazi Germany and Imperial Japan, and setting the stage for increasing national isolation and growing antisemitism. Also today: Roswell, New Mexico and My Brilliant Friend return for their second seasons, American Idol expands to Mondays, and the original 9-1-1 returns.     MINISERIES PREMIERE: With the 1940 election looming, Herman Levin (Morgan Spector) takes his family house hunting in the premiere of The Plot Against America. Though he's confident about an upcoming promotion, his wife Beth (Zoe Kazan) is uneasy with the increasing antisemitism tied to Charles Lindbergh's successful presidential campaign.     NEW EPISODE: As it expands to two nights a week, tonight sees American Idol kicking off the start of its pre-taped Hollywood Week. How the show will handle its later live episodes in mid-April amid the coronavirus pandemic has yet to be determined. 8:00 PM ET on ABC
