So much for being kind and "cutting people some slack." Wednesday night on Wheel of Fortune, Pat Sajak failed to put his recent words into action when he dismissed a contestant for telling "the most pointless story" of all time.
Sajak's encounter with Scott Ingwersen, an improv teacher from Califonia, got off to a rocky start when the longtime Wheel of Fortune host admitted that he "wasn't listening" to his mid-game interview. After some back and forth, Sajak glanced at his cue card, but he didn't like what he saw. "Why am I mentioning this?" he said. "It's on your card. You had your big toe chopped off. Why are you telling this?"
"It's important to know that when I was 12 years old, I was riding a 10-speed bike with flip-flops, and I fell and completely cut off the top of my toe," said Ingwersen. "The next car that came by were two paramedics that were on their way to their job, and they said, 'It's just a laceration.' But I didn't know what that was, so it freaked me out even more. And my toe is reattached, and I just wanna say thank you to them 30 years later."
The audience began awkwardly clapping, but Sajak held up his hand to silence them. "That may have been the most pointless story ever told," he said. "And you told it, Scott. Congratulations to you."
Needless to say, viewers felt Sajak's remark was uncalled for, especially considering his recent plea for fans to "have a little heart" after the "Feather in Your Cap" debacle. "The audacity to be so rude is baffling," said one fan. "Scott needs an apology," added another.
Pat Sajak telling someone their story was pointless is the exact reason I can’t watch Wheel of Fortune. The audacity to be so rude is baffling.— Cheyenne Rose (@Chey_5683) March 10, 2022
So @patsajak got on his @WheelofFortune high horse a week ago & lectured everyone to be nice to contestants who couldn’t solve an easy puzzle, but tonight he had no problem belittling and insulting a contestant who told their intro story. Scott needs an apology. #WheelOfFortune— ABT20 (@GoBlueD1) March 10, 2022
@WheelofFortune @patsajak what you said about Scott’s story tonight was cruel and uncalled for. How about you think before you speak next time. And Scott, your story was great and very thoughtful. I’m sorry Pat ruined it. #WheelOfFortune— elana ♡ (@elanatacoowl) March 10, 2022
