Matthew McConaughey Previews Governor Run with Bizarre 'Puberty' PSA

  • Matthew McConaughey encouraged Texas voters to feel "alright, alright, alright" this July 4 as he delivered a message about patriotism, unity, and... puberty?

In a video released late Sunday, McConaughey, who is reportedly considering a run for Texas governor, said that the United States is still in its infancy when compared to other countries that have been around since before 1776. "Happy birthday, America!" began the actor-turned-potential-governor. "Let's admit that this last year's trip around the sun was also another head-scratcher. Let's also remember that we are babies. As a country, we are basically going through puberty in comparison to other countries' timelines."

"And we're gonna go through growing pains. We are going through growing pains," he continued. "And this is good because we've got to keep learning. We've got to keep maturing. We've got to keep striving, keep climing. We've got to keep building. And we've got to make sure we maintain hope along the way, as we continue to evolve. Why? Because it's who we are! Why? Because the alternative sucks."

In what could easily be read as a hint about his political aspirations, McConaughey insisted that "our individual pursuits and desires need to be appreciative and supportive of our collective responsibilities as Americans." He added, "Take a little bit of inventory on where we've come from, where we are, and how and where we want to go from here on the way to being the best we can be."

Now, all McConaughey needs to do is get a better video team and he'll be well on his way to being a "legit" (so to speak) gubernatorial candidate.
