CW passed on Jane the Novela because "it didn't have the full quirkiness and fun" of Jane the Virgin

Jane the Novela's rejection doesn't mean The CW isn't interested in another Jane the Virgin spinoff. “We’ve reached out to Jennie (Snyder Urman) and said if she wishes, we’re interested in pursuing a potential other spinoff for Jane. It is in Jennie’s court," CW president Mark Pedowitz said during The CW's upfronts conference call.
