Meghan McCain says it was comments from her The View co-host Joy Behar that ultimately led her to leave the daytime talk show.

In a new interview with the The Commentary Magazine Podcast, McCain said she decided to leave the show shortly after her return from maternity leave in 2021.

"I finally went back to the show, and the day I went back to the show, Joy Behar said on air, 'Nobody missed you, we didn't miss you, you shouldn't have come back,'" McCain recalled.

"And I just... I started hysterically crying," she said. "I started lactating on air, and I started crying."

(For the record, Behar's on-air comment to McCain that day was "I did not miss you.")

McCain went on to say that she threw up in her office afterward before reaching out to her brother, who helped convince her to quit The View altogether.

"I didn't feel supported when I had my baby, and I didn't feel supported coming back," the former co-host said. "And that was ultimately it. That was why I left!"

After a ten month search, The View announced Thursday that Alyssa Farah Griffin will take McCain's seat when the show returns for its 26th season in September.
