Don't expect to see the Pritchett-Tucker clan back on TV any time soon. On Monday night, Modern Family's Jesse Tyler Ferguson appeared on Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen, where he discussed a potential spinoff about Mitch and Cam's (Eric Stonestreet) life in Missouri. Rumors of the spinoff have been circulating ever since the series ended in 2020, but Ferguson finally set the record straight during a frank interview with Cohen.
“There were discussions,” Ferguson said on WWHL. “I think the network decided against it.”
Appearing momentarily shocked by his admission, Ferguson added “That's the first time I ever said that!”
Despite Modern Family's overwhelming success, Ferguson believes ABC is looking for a more modern family sitcom. “I just wonder if this is the right family to tell this story,” he told Cohen. “We’ve been on for 11 years and they’re ready to move in a different direction.”
All seasons of Modern Family are currently streaming on Hulu and Peacock.
