The unscripted reunion special will tape on Sept. 10, exactly 30 years to the day of Fresh Prince's premiere on NBC. The special featuring Will Smith, Tatyana Ali, Karyn Parsons, Joseph Marcell, Daphne Maxwell Reid and Alfonso Ribeiro as well as the recurring DJ Jazzy Jeff will be released on HBO Max around Thanksgiving. HBO Max, which recently became Fresh Prince's streaming home, is promising "a funny and heartfelt night full of music, dancing, and special surprise guests, in honor of the series that ran for six seasons and 148 episodes." The reunion announcement comes weeks after the news that Smith is developing a gritty drama reboot of Fresh Prince. It also comes four months after Smith virtually reunited with the cast for his Snapchat talk show. Fresh Prince is the latest past NBC hit to get an HBO Max reunion. HBO Max has long been plotting a similar reunion with the cast of Friends, while last week the streamer announced a reunion special featuring The West Wing cast.
