Film Academy expands Oscars' Best Picture category to a guaranteed 10 nominees as part of its diversity efforts

Starting with the 94th Academy Awards in 2022, the Best Picture category will have a firm 10 nominees, rather than a fluctuating number of nominations from year to year. The Oscars previously had a guaranteed 10 Best Picture nominees for its 82nd through 85th ceremonies, before shifting to a system where there could be anywhere from five to 10 nominees.
